    I have been interested in Dan Siegel’s work for several years. I started to include brain science information in my therapy sessions with clients. I agree with him that they find it empowering, which is extremely helpful. It gives people a sense of hope that they can do something to change their situation for the better. I work with adolescents and younger children. All my clients and their parents respond well to the hand model of the brain as I explain how their brain works on alert. The hand model of the brain becomes a great visual cue so the kids can decide for themselves what kind of brain do I want, one that is stressed and on alert, or one that is quiet and calm, in a better place to make choices and decisions & get along with others. Having learned & practiced techniques/exercises they can do with their mind to quiet and calm themselves empowers them to use their knowledge & experience to have new choices. I always find Dan inspiring. I will need to find time to read more of his books!
